| Deeply Rooted The concept behind my Deeply Rooted series is that a person needs a firm foundation from which to grow. The foundation may be a supporting family or community, it may be an educational institution, a religious network, or even a certain physical environment. These figures were sculpted from slabs of clay in a hollow building process. Next they were clothed in thin textured slabs of clay that I had stamped before stretching. This thinware texture reminds me of both tree bark and fossilized limestone. Most of the figures are in groupings, symbolic of our need for the company and support of others. I explored the relationships between friends, mother and daughter, teacher and students, man and the environment. Linda Ganstrom |
