| You Made Your Bed |
| You Made Your Bed Stoneware fired to cone 04 Acrylic stains and beeswax Love quotes written on handmade paper embedded in the beeswax that covers the figure Seed Corn Life-scale 2000 "You made your bed, now you lie in it" is a quote I remember from my childhood. Perhaps it taught me about accountability and cnsequences. This piece deals with fertility, female promiscuity and gender roles. The reclining pose of the female nude appears passive and submissive in strong contrast to the stout little earth mother. Love promises and sweet lies seduce the figure. She is surrounded abundantly by seeds, symbolic of her fertility. Engraved into the wax are statistics about female promiscuity in animals and humans. As women gain economic power, how will their relationships with their mates change? Linda Ganstrom |
